Using your iPhone 5 to Produce Movies with iMovie

Wow so much has happened since my last post I don't know where to start. I guess I inform you about my new excitement over filming & editing movies with my iPhone 5. Technology is moving so fast and it's becoming more and more convenient and affordable to do things that would cost thousands of dollars in the past. I'm always looking for ways to concerve time and money while being effective with communicating through media.

The iMovie app has been available for iPhones since iPhone 4 but it wasn't till I got the iPhone 5 that I actually started taking advantage of it. I used to use iMovie on my laptop to edit videos and then I went on to using Final Cut. I've been able to produce some powerful videos with these tools and they are great tools. Things are happening so fast in my life now that I barely have time to sit down at my laptop and use Final Cut. I find that my production time goes so much fast when filming with my iPhone 5 and spending few minutes on the iMovie app to edit it. The app is only $4.99 and it's so worth every penny of it. Rather than filming a video with my big Canon T2i and spending hours importing the video and editing it, I can now do things with a zip and saving me time and energy to do other things with my time. I don't have to carry around a bulky camera any more and have the hassel of it weighing me down in my travels. I love being light on my feet. After editing the movie on my iPhone 5 with iMovie I can then upload it directly from my iPhone to YouTube and immediately share it with my friends and the rest of the world.

With iMovie I can add my own background music, add pictures and even add voice over. Just the other day I filmed some video footage in Manhattan during this Christmas season at Rockefeller Center. At first I uploaded it with some popular Christmas music but it got flagged by YouTube so rather than waiting for a strike to go against my accuont I just deleted it and only a few of my friends had the pleasure of seeing that edit. I found a hot beat to add to it instead which wouldn't be flagged and cause any copyright issues thereby giving me the freedom to express myself creatively. I then had the great idea of recording myself doing a freestyle rap over the beat straight into the iMovie app. I just rapped into the basic mic that comes built within the headphones that came with my iPhone 5. I did this while riding the bus and although the mic isn't the greatest my delivery was so raw I just decided to keep the recording. I did a little mixing of adjusting my vocal level with the beat then I just uploaded it directly to YouTube. The camera on my iPhone 5 records in HD yet when uploading the video I just upload it using the reccomended setting which is 540p two levels below HD 1080p. The reason I upload with iMovie's reccomended setting from my iPhone 5 is because most people will probably be viewing my movie with their smart phone and the video will play more smoothly for them at 540p rather than the 1080p HD setting. Computers with a good internet connection can view the movie best at the HD, I don't like to just cater to people who have laptops I want everyone to see my movies so nobody is left out who has access to viewing YouTube movies.

Well I hope this post has inspired many of you go use your iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5c or 5s to create fantastic videos to share with the world. I think it's a wonderful thing to have the ability to express ourselves with a less barriers or obstacles as possible. For those who don't have high end video cameras or laptop computers this is an effective way to make your voice heard and share your creativity and content with the world. I heard it once said that anytime you can find something that brings you pleasure to do and get paid for it then your no longer working your truly living. Well I paraphrased it but you get the message.

Oh yeah I left this part out. Guess what? YouTube will pay you for your content that you upload through it's advertising dollars. I'm fortunate enough to be a youtube partner due to the enormous amount of views I've achieved. I'm close to 300,000 total views as we speak and one of my videos alone has reached over 40,000 views with no promotion. These all equals to dollars for those who apply to be a youtube partner which is what I officially am. As a youtube parnter you can choose to monetize your videos which now gives you the ability to earn income on a residual basis when people view your videos. For this to be achieved it is very important to have legal rights to all of your content video, music, vocals. So do your best not to upload anyone elses copyright materal without their permission and you should be fine.

The ability to monetize videos is something I sought of stumbled upon after one of my videos went viral without me even knowing it. The video was from my "Pit Bull Diary" series where I filmed my dogs Tyson & Diamonds play fighting as puppies. I called the video "the Golden Glove Match" because they were playing tug of war with a golden glove. Hey I guess I struck gold with this one. My whole plan was to promote my rap music by putting it as background music behind the video and using the exciting footage of my dogs as a way to draw attention to my content.

So many people in the world are just like me and they love watching puppies play and enjoy themselves. It's such a beautiful things to watch dogs navigate their way through life as they grow from puppies to adults. Not only do people love animal videos but they love Hip-Hop Music also which is what I produce through my Beats N Blessings ( BNB Records, LLC). So as you can see if you find a creative way to make content that represents who you are and you can package it in such a way that gets people's attention then you can get paid for enjoying your life. Isn't that awesome? Yes it is. I plan to offer classes real soon in my community for those who want to learn more about how they can benefit from Mobile Media Production. We live in a new age and technology is now with in your fingertips it's just all about how you plan and strategize to make yourself and those you work with a success.
